I like to walk

I like to walk. Now, also, I should walk, because last year I had a stroke. But I love walking.

From my home to my English school it takes just one hour to walk. It is really a day to day discovered of Queen Anne and Fremont neighborhoods, of the curious idiosyncrasies of Seattle people.

I start in the early morning, generally at ten of seven. At this moment the city is still sleeping, except some workers and some people who are walking the dog. The sky usually is gray, maybe a little depressing form me (of course, I live in Italy). Everything is quiet in this moment, but of this quiet “before one an extraordinary chaotic event” as people say in my town (“the calm before the storm”). Something is quiet but, in just a moment,... everything will be moving.

Every day I walk up the hill of Queen Anne (of course, in Seattle I living in lower Queen Anne, in my girlfriend's studio apartment) and I cross the whole neighborhood walking on the Queen Anne Ave.

Every day I discover new idiosyncrasies of the people who live there. I met every day a lot of people who talk with themselves! Really! I don't know, maybe in Seattle there isn't a good mental health services or, maybe, the life in this city is very stressful!

Other interesting discoveries are the particular “electric” landscapes. In particular, because they are very different from my country. In the US they have a lot of electric cables, a lot of kind of electric cables and they cross the sky in many directions: it is a kind of chaotic. This combination of the wooden utility pole and chaotic cables, build in the summer sky a particular and amazing “electro-scapes” with the nice houses of Queen Anne in the back.

After going down the hill and the nice view you can see, I take my entrance in Fremont to cross that old bascule-bridge. Some time the bridge is open. In this case the traffic and the people stops and you can hear the singing ride-the-ducks that bringing a tourist to know the city. Every day, the same song (YMCA), in the same place: I think what is a perfect American organization!

It is very good entrance in Fremont, a land of artist and strange people where you can meet Trolls, Rockets, Dinosaurs, and other curiosity, together headquarter of most important software company in the world (Adobe, Google), movies studios and brewery.

Really curious is the statue of Lenin (gift of Slovakia), but more unbelievable is the “gelateria italiana (the ice cream store) in the back of the statue, that build a contradictory nice photo: the serious and politically strong look of Lenin & a tasty, delicious, Italian ice cream. Maybe this is a new way to improve the world: the sweet revolution by Fremont!
